The 2024 edition of the Seafood Expo Global/Seafood Processing Global, held from April 23 to 25 in Barcelona, Spain, surpassed all previous records, occupying a total of 51,248 net square meters—an increase of 4 percent from the 2023 show, as reported by event organizer Diversified Communications USA.
Wynter Courmont, Vice President of Seafood at Diversified Communications USA, emphasized the event's critical role in the global seafood industry, stating, "The industry relies on this event to reach their annual business goals in the global market."
With an estimated local economic impact exceeding EUR 156 million (USD 167 million), this year's expo welcomed exhibitors and attendees from 87 different countries. Notably, the event expanded to Hall 1 of the Fira Barcelona Gran Via Venue for the first time to accommodate the growing demand.
John Knorr, Senior Vice President and COO of Phillips Seafoods, highlighted the expo's significance for companies expanding into new markets, stating, "This event allows us to meet and talk with our customers, get their feedback on new items, and catch up to see what their goals are for the coming year."
Featuring exhibitors from diverse regions, the expo introduced new countries and companies, with notable recognitions such as the Seafood Excellence Global Awards, acknowledging innovative products from Parcs Saint Kerber and Algolesko.
Furthermore, the event marked a milestone with its inaugural reception and networking event—Connecting Women in Seafood—aimed at fostering inclusivity within the industry.
Partnering with the local food bank, Banc dels Aliments, for the third consecutive year, the expo continued its tradition of collecting donated seafood products from exhibitors, demonstrating its commitment to social responsibility.
Looking ahead, the next Seafood Expo Global/Seafood Processing Global is scheduled to return to Barcelona from May 6 to 8, 2025, at Fira de Barcelona's Gran Vía venue.
