"Fair Trade USA Expands Reach into Seafood Industry Through Partnerships like Australis Aquaculture"
Fair Trade USA, dedicated to fostering responsible business and conscious consumerism to combat poverty, celebrates its collaboration with Australis Aquaculture's The Better Fish brand for three years. This partnership, one of the organization's early ventures into aquaculture, underscores Fair Trade USA's commitment to addressing labor issues within the seafood sector.
Fair Trade's Senior Retail Partnerships Director, Abby Ayers, emphasizes the significance of this collaboration in enhancing consumer confidence amid ongoing labor challenges in the seafood industry. Australis Aquaculture CEO and Founder, Josh Goldman, acknowledges the partnership's role in bolstering brand credibility and consumer trust.
The full line of The Better Fish products, including barramundi tenders and fillets, is now Fair Trade-certified. Notably, Australis' Vietnam-based barramundi farm is the first in Asia to receive this certification.
Looking ahead, Australis plans to introduce Fair Trade-certified skinpack barramundi products and has recently unveiled Barra Bark pet treats, utilizing sustainable fish skin upcycling. This move marks the company's entry into the pet food market.
Fair Trade USA's focus extends beyond North America, with plans to expand globally into markets such as France, the U.K., and Switzerland. Ayers underscores Fair Trade's commitment to aligning with evolving consumer trends and expanding certification offerings to new species as consumer preferences evolve.
