“Blue Aqua Gulf Appoints Dr. Antonio Garza de Yta as COO to Drive Omani Aquaculture Objectives"
Blue Aqua Gulf, a subsidiary of the renowned aquaculture solutions provider Blue Aqua International, has named Dr. Antonio Garza de Yta as its new Chief Operating Officer. In this capacity, Dr. Garza de Yta will collaborate closely with Dr. Farshad Shishehchian, CEO and Founder of Blue Aqua International, to advance Omani aquaculture goals.
Bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role, Dr. Garza de Yta has a distinguished background in the aquaculture industry. Notably, he served as a senior advisor for Aquaculture at the Sustainable Technologies and Innovation Development Company in Oman, where he played a pivotal role in promoting innovative practices within the sector. His previous roles, including President of the World Aquaculture Society (WAS) and Secretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture of Tamaulipas, Mexico, further underscore his leadership and contributions to the field.
Oman's commitment to developing its aquaculture industry as part of its National Strategy for Sustainable Development of Aquaculture highlights the importance of this appointment. With a target of 200,000 tonnes of farmed fish production by 2040, the Omani government recognizes aquaculture as a key component in addressing food security and economic diversification.
In line with these ambitions, Blue Aqua Gulf is poised to support Oman's aquaculture objectives with innovative initiatives. In 2024, they plan to introduce the country's first hyper-intensive round tank system, aiming for an annual shrimp production of 1000 tonnes. Moreover, the company will serve as a training center for aspiring shrimp farmers and establish a dedicated research and development department to enhance their technological capabilities.
Looking ahead, Blue Aqua Gulf intends to establish itself as a leader in the aquaculture sector by expanding its operations, including the development of a Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) trout farm with a 3000 tonne annual capacity and a 10,000 tonne feed mill. These ambitious plans underscore the company's commitment to driving innovation and excellence in aquaculture.
