Aker BioMarine, a prominent Norwegian exporter specializing in harvesting and processing Antarctic krill, has received Innovation Norway's annual export prize, which honors Norwegian exporters for their success in generating value domestically through international markets.
The jury acknowledged Aker BioMarine's ability to achieve export success through a focused, sustainable, and innovative business strategy. They described the company as a leading biotechnology and krill harvesting enterprise, recognized internationally for its sustainable practices and advanced technology in krill capture.
Furthermore, Aker BioMarine was lauded for its comprehensive control over the entire value chain, spanning from krill harvesting in Antarctica to research, product development, production, and sales of krill-based ingredients and products. Notably, the company's exports account for a remarkable 91 percent of its turnover, primarily to the Americas and Asia.
Innovation Norway highlighted Aker BioMarine's contribution to establishing a new trillion-dollar industry and its position as a global leader in exporting a novel raw material. Emphasizing the company's commitment to minimizing bycatch through continuous innovation in fishing methods, Innovation Norway praised Aker BioMarine's significant achievements.
Norway's Minister of Trade and Industry, Jan Christian Vestre, commended Aker BioMarine for its innovative approach to utilizing marine resources for both fish feed and human nutrition, citing the company as a prime example of successful Norwegian exports.
