Mariscos Calafate SL, rooted in a fishing legacy since 1945, derives its name from the founder and family business patriarch, Nicolás Casas González, affectionately known as 'El Calafate' or the master-carpenter dedicated to shipbuilding.
In 1945, he established the inaugural shipyard in our hometown of Adra (Almería), specializing in crafting wooden fishing boats. Collaborating with his son, Nicolás Casas Biedma, the shipyard achieved national and international prominence in the mid-90s through innovative advancements in fiber boats.
Founded at the close of December 2017 in Adra (Almería), Mariscos Calafate SL is the brainchild of María José, Nicolás, Alejandro Casas Molina, Paula García Casas, and Juan de Dios García Casas – the grandchildren of Nicolás Casas González. This marks the third generation of a wholly family-owned enterprise, focusing on deep-frozen seafood fishing in open waters and subsequent distribution.
The fishing, conducted from our own boats, is nearly artisanal, with our crew meticulously classifying the catch to ensure the highest quality seafood with minimal handling. Emphasizing the preservation of raw materials, we strive to minimize the time from capture to freezing, a process executed on the same boat at temperatures as low as -45 degrees Celsius, followed by storage at -20 degrees Celsius. This meticulous approach sets us apart.
Mariscos Calafate specializes primarily in the capture and subsequent sale of top-quality Carabineros, Crawfish, White, and Red Prawns in both the national and international markets.
