Southeastern Grocers, which was acquired by Aldi US in August 2023 with the deal finalized on March 7, 2024, has launched a spring season price-hold program. The initiative offers discounts on over 1,000 commonly purchased items, including seafood.
According to Southeastern Grocers, shoppers can expect an average saving of nearly 20 percent on items marked with blue 'Price Hold' signs, covering pantry essentials, dairy, meat, snacks, cleaning supplies, and more.
The program extends discounts to a variety of frozen seafood products, including cod, fish sticks, crab cakes, flounder, and others, as confirmed by Southeastern Grocers Senior Director of Communications and Community.
As part of the initiative, all Gorton’s frozen fish products are priced at USD 6.99 (EUR 6.43). Additionally, customers can enjoy savings on king crab legs, snow crab legs, salmon, shrimp, and more.
Southeastern Grocers is encouraging customers to explore its Fisherman’s Wharf seafood line, which offers a range of fresh and frozen options, including BAP-certified and sustainable seafood choices.
The overarching goal of the price-hold program, akin to recent initiatives seen in U.K. supermarkets, is to assist families in managing their budgets more effectively throughout the spring season and beyond, as stated by Southeastern Grocers Chief Merchandising Officer, Dewayne Rabon.
Rabon emphasized the commitment to providing value across various product categories, including seasonal favorites, to help customers meet their savings targets. The Price Hold program aims not only to reduce prices but also to maintain them on grocery essentials at Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie locations.
In 2023, Southeastern Grocers reported that customers at Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie saved over USD 1.65 billion (EUR 1.5 billion) through rewards apps, discount programs, and coupons. The grocer's own-brand products, offering nearly 8,000 items, allowed customers to save an average of 20 percent compared to national brands.
The company plans to expand its "Know & Love" product line in 2024, introducing nearly 1,000 clean-label products across food, beverage, and household categories, reinforcing its commitment to providing affordable, high-quality options.
In a press release on March 7, Aldi announced its intention to convert at least 50 Winn-Dixie and Harvey's stores to the Aldi banner by the end of the year.
