In week 18 of 2024, the average per-kilogram price of Norwegian salmon saw a notable increase, reaching NOK 127.06 (USD 10.82, EUR 10.07). This marks a significant rise of 7.7 percent from the previous week's NOK 117.95 (USD 10.81, EUR 10.06).

Norwegian Salmon Prices and Export Trends in Week 18 of 2024
The Nasdaq Salmon Index reports fluctuations in Norwegian salmon prices, indicating a 6.08% decrease over the past four weeks but a substantial 17% increase over the past 12 weeks. Notably, sales data for the 18th week of 2024 reveals detailed insights into various weight categories:
Salmon weighing between 1 and 2 kilograms experienced a 10.7% share of total sales, with prices averaging NOK 89.08, showing a decline from the previous week. Sales of salmon between 2 and 3 kilograms comprised 8.43% of total sales, with prices rising to NOK 109.36. Salmon in the 3- to 4-kilogram range constituted 20.24% of total sales, with prices escalating to NOK 123.19. The 4- to 5-kilogram category, representing 19.7% of sales, witnessed a significant price increase to NOK 127.33. Salmon weighing between 5 and 6 kilograms accounted for 26.37% of sales, with prices rising to NOK 133.48. Sales data also indicate increases in prices for other weight categories, reinforcing a positive trend in the market. Additionally, Fish Pool's futures pricing forecasts show optimistic projections for May, June, and beyond, signaling potential growth in the salmon market.
In terms of exports, the Norwegian Salmon Council's weekly report highlights a total export volume of 11,547 metric tons (MT) in the 18th week of 2024. European nations remained the primary market, although some countries saw fluctuations in import volumes compared to the previous week:
Denmark, Poland, France, and the U.K. experienced decreases in import volumes. The Netherlands, Spain, and Italy witnessed increases in import volumes. China and the U.S. also played notable roles in Norwegian salmon exports, with China receiving 521 MT and the U.S. importing 123 MT.
Overall, despite some fluctuations, the Norwegian salmon market continues to demonstrate resilience and adaptability, poised for potential growth in the coming weeks and months.
