Enifer, a Finnish biotech startup, Unveils Study on PekiloAqua Mycoprotein's Positive Impact on Shrimp Feed
Enifer, a pioneering biotech firm from Finland, releases findings from a study conducted in collaboration with AquaBioTech Group, shedding light on the transformative effects of incorporating PekiloAqua mycoprotein into shrimp diets.
With the shrimp industry heavily reliant on fishmeal for protein, concerns over global marine fish stocks' sustainability have spurred efforts to explore alternative feed sources. Enifer's research presents a promising solution, showcasing significant benefits observed in shrimp fed with PekiloAqua mycoprotein diets.
The study reveals a marked reduction in overall mortality rates among shrimp consuming the PekiloAqua diet, with survival rates increasing notably. Furthermore, analysis indicates a notable boost in crude protein content in PekiloAqua-fed shrimp, compared to those on traditional fishmeal diets.
Beyond nutritional advantages, PekiloAqua boasts immune-enhancing properties, incorporating compounds like beta-glucan and nucleotides to bolster shrimp health and disease resistance. This fortified immunity is critical in mitigating disease risks and promoting sustainable shrimp farming practices.
Notably, PekiloAqua's inclusion in shrimp diets demonstrates improved growth rates without escalating feed intake. Additionally, the mycoprotein contains spermine, further enhancing shrimp growth.
Heikki Keskitalo, Enifer's business development manager and co-founder, underscores the study's significance, emphasizing the potential of PekiloAqua to revolutionize shrimp farming practices. Addressing pressing industry challenges such as rising feed costs, market fluctuations, and disease management, PekiloAqua emerges as a sustainable, eco-friendly solution, aligning with long-term shrimp farming sustainability goals.
