Aldi France Initiates Shrimp Recall Due to Vibrio Bacteria Risk
Aldi has announced a recall of frozen shrimp under the Golden Seafood brand amid concerns of potential contamination with vibrio vulnificus, a bacterium known for its pathogenic effects. The recall, conducted in conjunction with the French government, was initiated on 24 June following the discovery of vibrio in a specific batch of 400-gram shrimp bags sold from 18 March to 5 June 2024. The affected products, identifiable by a sell-by date of 22 October 2025 and lot number VN 089 V 101NTSF17 ALDIFR 23057B, are subject to the recall.

Aldi's frozen shrimp, distributed in regions including Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Centre-Val de Loire, Grand-Est, Hauts-de-France, Ile-de-France, Normandie, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Occitanie, and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, is subject to a recall as reported on the government's consumer recall website, Rappel Conso.
Consumers who purchased the affected product are urged to return it to Aldi stores for a refund.
Vibrio bacteria, which thrive in warm, salty waters and can contaminate shellfish, pose health risks ranging from gastrointestinal discomfort in healthy individuals to severe complications such as sepsis and even death in vulnerable populations. Symptoms of vibriosis typically appear between 12 to 72 hours after consuming raw or undercooked seafood, but can manifest up to a week later.
In related recalls, Cooperative U's salmon steak with sorrel sauce and basmati rice was recalled on 25 June due to an incorrect sell-by date, while Sa Verrine's 15-pack bags of mussels were recalled on 26 June due to potential contamination by diarrheal marine biotoxins.
